Your part in the process: using NoticeBored to raise awareness

NB process your partWe know you’re busy: staying on top of security awareness and training is a time-consuming chore. Leave it to the experts to research and prepare fresh content on topical subjects!  Concentrate what little time you have on the most beneficial and rewarding part: interacting with your colleagues.

How you use the NoticeBored materials is down to you. The train-the-trainer guide in every module offers suggestions, tips and creative techniques to help you get the most out of them.

The materials are fully-editable Microsoft Office files that you can customize and adapt as much as you like.

Deploying the materials across the organization may involve circulating selected items electronically (e.g. by email or through your Learning Management System) and/or on paper. NoticeBored complements the rather drab, limited and often horribly outdated content typical of LMSs: simply cut-n-paste fresh content into your LMS and/or provide supplementary course materials to students, deepening and extending the learning experience beyond the screen. Printing and distributing the posters, briefings, diagrams and puzzles on paper as desk-drops, leaflets and handouts takes the awareness program to employees who are not chained to their PCs - remember this is information security not IT security. Even the janitor has a role in protecting information!

If you are seriously pushed for time, you might just fluff-up your intranet each month with fresh awareness content. Why not contribute an information security column for your staff magazine - something that you would dearly love to do now if only you had the time!

Given the choice, we recommend the personal touch, ideally delivering awareness seminars, workshops, training sessions etc. in person. How about delivering a short ‘information risk and security update’ at occasional management meetings?  The case studies, quizzes and other interactive events turn otherwise tedious events into lively and memorable experiences, with plenty of opportunity to think, laugh and ask questions. Face-to-face contact with your colleagues gives people the opportunity to raise concerns, keeping Information Security in-tune with the business. Building your social network drives information security to the next level, bolstering your corporate security culture.
